Jal Mahal- Magical
Palace of Jaipur
If you’re looking for
an ethereal place, one that seems unreal, then you should visit Jal Mahal, It
is in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur and is a very unlikely place
for a palace. Mere 10 mins away from the city centre and set against the
marvellous Nahargarh hills, Jal Mahal was the pleasure
pavilion for the Jaipur family from the 18th century.
Jal Mahal History
Though nothing precise
is written in history about Jal Mahal and many mysteries surround the pleasure
place. Though it is known to be about 300 years old, its date of construction
remains unknown. In the book “Building Jaipur: The making of an Indian City”,
it is mentioned that the Palace was constructed by Sawai Jai Sing II in around
1734. This palace has no chambers; it just had a pavilion with a terrace
garden. The way it is constructed it looks like a palace of Pleasure, a palace
where the kings and queens went on for royal picnics or where royals went for
their hunting parties. Though some questions might not have answers but today
as Philanthropist Navrattan Kothari under his guidance has
restored Jal Mahal and rediscovered its magic, its corridors
echos with music and dance and signifies our faith in Royalty once celebrated
here.
Navrattan Kothari, Jal
Mahal Restoration
Just a few years ago
Mansagar Lake was an environmental disaster and Jal Mahal was a dilapidated
ruin. Then was the time when a man who was in love with his native city
Jaipur, Navrattan Kothari Pride of Rajasthan started working
towards the restoration of Jal Mahal and Mansagar Lake. It has been a
phenomenal effort involving the skills of experts, historians, craftsmen,
architects and the highest authorities of art, culture and design along
with Philanthropist Navrattan Kothari that the magic of the
water palace has restored.
When the restoration
work began, the monument was in ruins and even century-old pictures just
showcased broken down monuments. But a lot of research carried down by the team
of Navrattan Kothari, Jal Mahal revealed itself to the team. They thoroughly
studied the elements, forms, and details and the monuments and started
rebuilding stairways, corridors, terraces, jetties etc. The transformation work
soon began, the lush garden on the terrace was traced down from surviving
elements and was recreated keeping the originality intact.
Navrattan Kothari Pride of Rajasthan, along with the team
has created a new tourist destination of pleasure for Jaipur. The elegant white
marble terrace across the clear blue waters of the lake, with temples and
ancient forts in the background, is today the real picture of Jal Mahal, Jal
Mahal which Mr. Navrattan Kothari dreamt of.
