Walk together with Navrattan Kothari—an inspiring story of business and ethics

Navrattan Kothari

The historic walled district of Jaipur, also known as the "Pink City," bears witness to Jaipur's prominence in the annals of India. The royal family's official residence, the Hawa Mahal, and the astronomical observatory, the Jantar Mantar, are both nearby. Over a century ago, KGK Group got its start in a small shop on these very same streets in Jaipur's old city. A trip that has brought the KGK group to greater heights in the jewelry industry and opened up new doors for them all over the world.

This Hong Kong-based company now employs over 12,000 people across five continents. After 115 years in business, the morals and values that guided the company's founding remain the same.

As a tribute to the incredible city of Jaipur, the KGK Group has played a key role in bringing the city's aesthetics to the forefront and attracting international attention.

This blog recounts the history of the enduring relationship between Jaipur and KGK Group, and how the company has paid tribute to the magnificent Pink City of India throughout its existence.

The Story of KGK Group

Shri Navrattan Kothari, KGK Group's current patriarch, is the third generation of his family to enter the business. The story of KGK began in 1905, when his grandfather, Shri Keshrimalji Kothari, began trading colored gemstones from Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar), and selling them in Jaipur. The world-famous rubies, sapphires, and emeralds of Burma are among these. With the addition of Keshrimalji's son, Shri Ghisilal Kothari, the company expanded across the country.

Shri Navrattan Kothari started working for his family business, KGK Group, in 1960. He took control of the diamond trading industry, relocated KGK Group's headquarters to Hong Kong, and then set his sights on the rest of the world.

There are now branches in the United States, China, Thailand, and Angola. After 115 years, KGK Group is now one of De Beers' 84 sightholders and the only Rio Tinto Select Diamantaire in Rajasthan. Despite their success and global reputation, the Kothari family still calls Jaipur home. They have a manufacturing plant there as well as a retail outlet and a permanent residence there. They also have other ties to the metropolis.

Giving Back to Jaipur

The KGK Group has made numerous contributions to Jaipur. The KGK Group, now a global powerhouse, makes it a point to highlight its roots in the city of Jaipur at every opportunity. A metropolis whose buildings are well-known worldwide. As a tribute to the Pink City of Jaipur, the Patriarch of KGK Group, Mr. Kothari continues to produce a number of items that feature this craftsmanship. On top of that, Jaipur is where the KGK Group's luxury and fine jewelry brand Entice first began its Indian expansion.

In addition, year after year, the KGK Group has been honored with a slew of awards and recognitions for its efforts and brilliance. The JNA Awards' lifetime achievement award to Shri Navrattan Kothari stands out as the most significant honor he has received. An award commemorating a man's more than six-decade-long devotion to his family, community, and profession.

To show their appreciation for Jaipur's rich history, the KGK Group decided to restore the city's most well-known landmark, the Jal Mahal. The philanthropist Navrattan Kothari was responsible for bringing the magnificent Jal Mahal back to its former glory with the help of architects, engineers, and art historians from all over the world. Local and foreign sightseers alike continue to flock to Jaipur in order to take in the city's famed splendor.

You can't expect to achieve your goals by taking the easy way out. Shri Navrattan Kothari, a man who has learned this lesson the hard way, advises others to "Stay committed, and success will follow." His devotion to Jaipur and his loved ones has helped him achieve phenomenal success. Despite its meteoric rise to become one of the top 10 jewelry producers in the world, KGK Group has never lost touch with its values or its Russian heritage. The Group continues to maintain its dignity alongside its worldwide affiliates in this time of crisis.
